Four weeks have passed since the Ted Lasso Season 4 finale, but AFC Richmond fans still aren’t ready to part with Apple TV’s uplifting, Emmy-winning comedy — especially after waiting so long for its return.
It was a joy to reunite with original favorites Ted (Jason Sudeikis), Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt), Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein), Keeley f*cking Jones (Juno Temple), Higgins (Jeremy Swift), and more. We also got the chance to spend time with newer characters, including Coach Alice Chilton (Tanya Reynolds), Gemma (Abbie Hern), Lizzie (Faye Marsay), and the rest of the Lady Greyhounds. But is this truly the end of AFC Richmond’s women’s team, or will the hopeful world of Ted Lasso continue?
Will Apple TV order Ted Lasso Season 5? Has the streamer renewed or canceled the series? And if the show does return, when could the Ted Lasso Season 5 release date arrive? After waiting three years for Season 4, fans are understandably hoping for a shorter gap.

Will There Be A Ted Lasso Season 5 On Apple TV? Ted Lasso Renewal Status:
Four weeks after the Ted Lasso Season 4 finale, Apple TV has not officially renewed the comedy for a fifth season. That doesn’t mean Season 5 is off the table, however. The Emmy-winning series remains one of Apple TV’s biggest original hits — a major reason it returned for Season 4 in the first place. The finale was also labeled “Season Finale” rather than “Series Finale,” giving fans one more reason to stay hopeful.
With the show’s enduring popularity and enormous fanbase, Apple could certainly approve additional seasons of Ted Lasso, particularly with more stories to tell about the Lady Greyhounds. Earlier in the season, Sudeikis told The Hollywood Reporter that he brought the series back with another three-season arc in mind. Following the Season 4 finale, Hunt told Deadline, “I certainly hope [Season 5] happens, and I’m optimistic, but yeah, haven’t heard anything official yet. It would be nice though.” During a recent episode of “Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso,” Sudeikis said he “would like to” make more seasons, while adding that “it takes a village.”
“I just don’t know,” Sudeikis continued. “We haven’t started a writers’ room or anything like that.”
When Decider interviewed Abbie Hern and Tanya Reynolds before the finale, both actors also voiced enthusiasm for a potential Season 5. Asked whether they had a broader idea of where their characters might go after Season 4, Reynolds replied, “We have no idea. There’s obviously so much potential, so many possibilities…” The pair did, however, have one particular wish for the future of Ted Lasso.
“We’d be so interested in a flashback to our Arsenal days,” Reynolds continued. “We can get to the bottom of the beef. But also, I saw a clip of you guys playing football, and you all look so cool, and I feel jealous that I don’t get to play football. I’m grateful I don’t get to play football, because if I did, it would be horrendous and I would be a laughing stock, but you did all look very cool, so I’m like maybe…”
“I want to see Alice in a kit, though. Just for a minute,” Hern agreed. “Yeah, so I could put one shot of Alice kicking the ball. Even if it has to be my head CGI’d onto someone else’s body,” Reynolds concluded.
Although Mae said goodbye in Season 4’s penultimate episode, Badland would be happy to return to the series someday — and she already has an imaginative idea for how it could happen. “You never know. There is a film called It’s a Wonderful Life, where an angel keeps popping back. Maybe Mae can pop back up as a sort of conscience,” Badland told DECIDER.
Clearly, Ted Lasso Season 5 needs to happen so the show can deliver both the stars’ Arsenal flashback and the possibility of It’s Mae Wonderful Life!
Ted Lasso Season 5 Release Date: When Will Ted Lasso Season 5 Premiere?
Because Ted Lasso has not yet been officially renewed, Apple TV has not announced a Ted Lasso Season 5 release date. Looking at the show’s first three seasons, Season 1 and Season 2 premiered less than a year apart, in 2020 and 2021. Season 3 followed roughly one year and eight months after Season 2.
If Apple approves Season 5 and the writing and production process moves ahead without significant delays, new episodes could potentially arrive in fall 2027 or early to mid-2028. Still, the three-year wait between Seasons 3 and 4 shows how unpredictable the production timeline can be. For now, the next chapter appears to depend largely on Sudeikis and the creative team. Stay tuned for further updates.
Until then, catch up on Decider’s Ted Lasso coverage, including detailed recaps, cast interviews, analysis, and additional insights into the series.
