It looks like the sequel for The Devil Wears Prada is not moving at a glacial pace, as Miranda Priestly would say.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to premiere in theaters May 1, 2026, nabbing Avengers: Doomsday‘s former release date. Doomsday is now set to premiere later that year on Dec. 18, 2026, the same date as Denis Villeneuve‘s Dune: Messiah.

This is unexpectedly soon for The Devil Wears Prada 2. Puck first reported the sequel was in early development at Disney in July 2024, set to be written by Aline Brosh McKenna, the same writer who adapted the original film from Lauren Weisberger’s novel.

The Devil Wears Prada was a box office hit when it premiered in 2006. It followed Andrea “Andy” Sachs (Anne Hathaway) who lands her first job in journalism as an executive assistant to Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the demanding editor in chief of Runway magazine. As Andy struggles to learn the ropes from Miranda’s other assistant Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt) and art director Nigel Kipling (Stanley Tucci), she begins to lose herself in the glamorous world of fashion where she’s forced to deliver on Miranda’s every whim – no matter how unrealistic they may be.

It remains unclear who will be returning for the sequel. However, it looks like the sequel will be heading in a different direction.

Per Puck’s report, Streep and Blunt have been convinced to reprise their roles. At the time, Hathaway was not confirmed to return for the sequel. She may still be willing, however, as she recently signed on to return for Princess Diaries 3.

The sequel will reportedly offer Emily a shot at revenge after she was cast aside by Miranda in the first entry. Puck reports the sequel will show Miranda grappling with the decline of traditional magazine publishing when she’s “forced to go head-to-head with her former assistant, Blunt’s Emily Charlton, now a high-powered executive at a Kering or LVMH-style luxury group, whose advertising dollars Priestly desperately needs.”

Hathaway has previously been skeptical about returning for a sequel. But that didn’t stop her from joining Streep and Blunt on stage at the SAG Awards in 2024 to informally reprise their roles while presenting an award.

Deadline reports original director David Frankel will return for The Devil Wears Prada 2, as will producer Wendy Finerman.
