Bravo’s The Valley features three former Vanderpump Rules cast members, and the show’s producer is well aware that fans don’t want any more. Kristen Doute, Jax Taylor, and Brittany Cartwright are all VPR alums who make up the main cast of The Valley. In the second season, fans also saw more of Tom Schwartz, Lala Kent, and Scheana Shay. Here’s what producer Alex Baskin said about the fans’ frustration over this.
‘The Valley’ producer Alex Baskin spoke about Tom Schwartz, Lala Kent, and Scheana Shay
Schwartz, Kent, and Shay are not cast members on The Valley, but they have appeared in a handful of episodes. Many fans worry that this is their bid to secure a spot on the show. Vanderpump Rules is rebooting with a new cast, and The Valley fans are vehemently against the three former cast members jumping ship to the new show. Baskin responded to the frustration.
“Well, I think it’s a super passionate fanbase, and it is amazing to me that we’re even a little bit removed from season 11 of Vanderpump Rules and those passions haven’t cooled, and so [we] certainly take note of that,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “I wouldn’t say that there’s any consensus [amongst fans], I would say that there’s a lot of heated thoughts.”
Still, he said Schwartz, Kent, and Shay all fit in well not only with the friend group, but in the cast of a reality series.
“I think part of what is fun about these series’ is that there’s something for everyone, and I think there’s a lot of different points of view, and I think obviously those three are very much a part of this group, just naturally, and they’re very comfortable living their lives in front of the cameras,” he said. “They’re used to it, they’ve been doing it for a long time.”
This is likely not the response that many fans hoped to hear.
The producer said they are still trying to finalize the cast on the third season of ‘The Valley’
Fans had the same concerns after the first season of the show, but Baskin was adamant that they would not add to the cast. He felt it was full and wanted to give the existing cast room to show.
“You know, I said after season one that we weren’t adding any more primary cast members, and in part, we were really crowded, and we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to shine,” he said. “And we did want to give Jasmine [Goode] and Zack [Wickham] the chance to be more involved and take on more prominence.”
As they prepare for the third season, however, there is more room to add. Taylor recently stepped away from the show.
“Now, we’re figuring out where we go from here,” he said. “Obviously, there are already changes: Jax isn’t coming back, so season three will be different just by virtue of that. We’re sort of figuring out what else it’s going to look like.”
One ‘Vanderpump Rules’ alum just stepped away from the show
As noted, one of the Vanderpump Rules alums on The Valley has stepped away. After a tumultuous season, Taylor announced his exit.
“After an incredibly challenging year and many honest conversations with my team and producers, I’ll be stepping away from the next season of The Valley,” he said in a statement shared with Bravo’s Daily Dish. “Right now, my focus needs to be on my sobriety, my mental health, and coparenting. Taking this time is necessary for me to become the best version of myself, especially for our son, Cruz.”
Taylor faced a significant amount of backlash from fans, which Baskin said may have influenced his decision to leave.
“It’s hard to say whether or not he would have made that decision on his own but for the influence of the audience,” Taylor said. “But the important thing is that he got there, and we all want him, and the audience included, to take care of himself.”
