The hosts of The View engaged in a lively discussion about the dynamics of Second Lady Usha Vance’s relationship with J.D. Vance, who serves as Vice President under Donald Trump. This conversation was sparked by the revelation that Usha was registered as a Democrat as recently as 2014.

During the ABC program, a segment from Usha’s recent NBC interview was shown, where she expressed feeling “very comfortable” in her role as second lady within the Trump administration. She emphasized the importance of maintaining an open mind, stating, “Even if we don’t agree, I think it’s always very productive.”

Sara Haines speculated that Usha might influence J.D. to reconsider certain issues from different viewpoints, while Sunny Hostin remarked, “It just couldn’t be me.”

Hostin elaborated, “It’s challenging to discuss because we can’t know what happens within a marriage. She’s a Democrat from 2014, currently married to the vice president, and expecting a child. But for me, it wouldn’t work. It just couldn’t be me.”

She further commented, “I believe that shared values are crucial, especially in today’s climate. Some differences are simply dealbreakers.”

Hostin pointed out that J.D., who identifies as Christian, once stated that he did “hope” Usha, who grew up Hindu, would one day be “somehow moved” by his religion.

“I think when your spouse is saying, ‘I want you to be a different religion,’ I don’t know. That’s just something that’s very far apart for me,” she said.

The couple have been married since 2014 and share three children together, with one on the way.

Joy Behar also pointed out that, in addition to Usha previously identifying as a Democrat, J.D. openly criticized Trump before he became his running mate by referring to him as a “moral disaster” and “America’s Hitler.”

“And yet, here they are kissing [Trump’s] butt everyday,” Behar complained. “It’s unbelievable to me how many people have done a 180 on everything they believed before for power and money.”

Hostin added the same could be said about Usha. “Maybe she has done that 180 so that her husband could also – for power,” Hostin speculated.

She added that Usha’s change of heart “feels like hypocrisy.”

“This is a smart woman. She’s a lawyer, she’s Yale educated,” Hostin continued. “This a woman who had a life of her own and now, maybe not so much.”
