  • A throwback video of Nigerian artist Asake visiting the Ooni of Ife in 2018 has gone viral on social media.
  • The resurfacing of the video coincides with Asake’s recent visit to Ile Ife, Osun State.
  • Asake made headlines for arriving at his alma mater, Obafemi Awolowo University, by helicopter.

A nostalgic video featuring Nigerian international music sensation Ahmed Ololade, widely recognized as Asake or Mr Money, has been making the rounds on social media. The clip, which dates back to 2018, captures Asake’s visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye, and has resurfaced following his recent return to Ile Ife, Osun State.

Asake recently garnered attention when he arrived at his former school, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), via helicopter. During this visit, he took the opportunity to pay a courtesy call to the Ooni’s palace. Accompanying him were his mother, socialite Yhemolee, actor Lala, and his entourage.

This visit was not Asake’s first interaction with the royal palace. In 2018, before his rise to fame, he had visited the Ooni alongside popular content creators Broda Shaggi and Yemi Elesho, also known as Broda Nuru. In video clips from that occasion, a youthful Asake is seen sitting playfully on the floor near the Ooni, and in another moment, he is joyfully popping balloons.

Asake’s breakthrough came in 2022 when he was signed by YBNL’s head, Olamide. This pivotal moment in his career propelled him to international acclaim, with performances on global stages, including a sold-out event at the iconic O2 Arena.

Returning to Ile Ife as a celebrated artist, Asake was warmly embraced by the community, with the Ooni and others expressing pride in his achievements as a distinguished son of the town.
