Tina Knowles is addressing the viral video that sparked speculation about her scolding granddaughter Rumi, 7, during a recent onstage moment. The fashion icon and Beyoncé’s mother set the record straight, putting rumors to rest and offering clarity on the now-famous clip that has become a part of the Cowboy Carter tour.

Knowles jokingly told CBS Mornings host, Gayle King, that “grandmas don’t play,” and that the moment was indeed, “real.”

“People have written all kinds of narratives about it, but actually it was real,” she told King. “I mean it’s real life, you know? Grandmas don’t play.”

The 71-year-old author and philanthropist continued explaining what happened during that viral moment in further detail.

“No, it really wasn’t that. It was just that she was reaching for the mic because she wanted to say something, and I realized that, but she was pulling, and I was like, ‘Oh God. That’s all that needs to happen is the mic hits her in the face, and they say Beyoncé hit her in the face with the mic.’”

Always filled with motherly advice for the masses, in October of 2024, Knowles shared some invaluable advice on the motherhood journey with People Magazine at Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards event.

“I feel like the teenage years are the most difficult, but it will get better and you get what you put in,” she said, adding, “That’s what I truly believe. The more you put into your kids, the more love and care and support you give them, the more you get out of it.”

During her actual acceptance speech at the event, the matriarch reflected even more on her life as a mother.

“I’ve been so blessed in my life to do many things. I’ve had many careers, but I’ve always said that the best job that I’ve ever had is being a mother,” Knowles said. “I’ve had the privilege of raising and helping to raise four daughters… two that were born to me and two that were a gift to me from God. You know, I was somewhat of a rebellious teen and a young adult, and I didn’t always follow the rules, but the day that I became a mother, I decided that this was one thing that I wouldn’t screw up.”

From our perspective, Tina Knowles hasn’t just mastered motherhood, she’s excelling as a grandmother too, offering timeless wisdom and inspiration for generations of women to come.
