Tom Cruise was in high spirits as he attended the Mexico premiere of Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning on Tuesday night, after swerving an awkward question about his estranged daughter Suri.

The actor, 62, joined his co-stars in his latest stop on a global press trail to promote the eighth and final Mission Impossible film.

Joining director Christopher McQuarrie on the red carpet, Tom cut a dapper figure in a sharp black suit as he mingled with fans.

Reprising his role as hero Ethan Hunt, Tom takes on his biggest mission yet, after a tense cliffhanger in the last film saw the spy determined to track down cyber weapon The Entity and learning that his team was betrayed and his ‘secrets compromised.’

The film, which has faced multiple delays, is finally due to hit cinemas on Friday, May 23 2025

Hours earlier, a clip emerged that showed Tom being seemingly caught off-guard when he was asked about his plans for Father’s Day.

The star awkwardly said he would be ‘just having fun, man’ when asked about his ideal Father’s Day plans at the Mission: Impossible premiere in New York City on Monday. 

When a E! News journalist stopped him on the red carpet, he seemed taken aback by being asked: ‘Father’s Day is just around the corner. What would an ideal Father’s Day look like for you?’

He paused and said, ‘You know…’ before trailing off and shaking his head as his gaze moved to something in the distance. ‘Just having fun, man.’ 

Without referencing any of his kids, the father-of-three — who also broke his silence about his romance with Ana de Armas at the premiere — then redirected the conversation to his action films. 

‘Making movies, big adventures, having a great time,’ he added. 

He has long been estranged from his daughter, now 19, whom he shares with actress Katie Holmes. 

Cruise is reportedly close to his daughter Isabella, now 32, and son Connor, now 30, both of whom he and his second wife Nicole Kidman adopted when they were married in the ’90s.

He has been estranged from his daughter, now 19, for years with many reports that the last time he saw her was in the summer of 2012 after Cruise and Katie Holmes separated; Suri is pictured August 2024 in New York City

He was first married to Mimi Rogers from 1987 to 1990 before getting married to Kidman that same year. 

Cruise and Kidman were together for 11 years before their 2001 split. 

Five years later, Katie Holmes gave birth to their daughter Suri in April 2006, and the proud parents got married that same year.

They eventually called it quits in 2012, and since then, Cruise has long been estranged from their now-teenage daughter Suri. 

In the comments section of the YouTube video, a slew of fans seemed appalled by the ‘naughty question.’ 

‘Making movies? That’s definitely not a Dad activity. His loss,’ one YouTube user commented. 

Another added: ‘Seeing the daughter he has abandoned for a decade perhaps?’ 

One person pointed out that he was ‘not interested in answering the father question’ and called his estrangement as ‘his biggest failure.’ 

Some people were shocked by the ‘wild question’ as others slammed Cruise for his lack of a relationship with his youngest child. 

‘A simple question about Father’s Day and he can’t answer it. He has gotten to a point where all he can talk about is movies and his love of movies. What about being a parent, Tom? There was a time when that was important to you. Sad for this man.’

Suri was raised by her mother in New York City and graduated from La Guardia High School last year. 

During her graduation ceremony, she debuted her name change, revealing she dropped Cruise’s surname and was now going by just her first and middle name now: Suri Noelle.  

She is currently studying at Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania and frequently travels back to New York City to spend time with her mom, with whom she has a very close relationship. 

Last year, it was reported that Suri’s alleged trust fund from Cruise had kicked in after she turned 18, but Holmes quickly slammed the claims as ‘completely false.’ 

‘I don’t want a target on my child’s back,’ she explained in an Instagram comment in December 2024. ‘It’s dangerous.’
