Tom Holland and Zendaya Unveil New Trailer for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Tom Holland dons the Spider-Man suit once more, stepping back into the role of the beloved neighborhood hero, as he endeavors to rekindle his relationship with MJ, portrayed by Zendaya, in the eagerly anticipated trailer for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”

Set to hit theaters on July 31, this fourth solo installment promises to deliver heightened drama, picking up from the seismic events that concluded “No Way Home” in 2021, where Spider-Man’s universe faced a profound upheaval.

In the preceding film, Peter Parker made a monumental sacrifice to protect New York City and the multiverse from destruction—a crisis inadvertently triggered by Doctor Strange’s spell, which opened the MCU gates to villains like the Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus from alternate dimensions.

To counter the catastrophic magic, Peter consented to a spell causing the world to forget his true identity, a secret that had been exposed by Mysterio at the conclusion of “Spider-Man: Far From Home.”

This spellful decision meant that his girlfriend MJ, his best friend Ned (played by Jacob Batalon), and everyone else would lose all memory of Peter Parker being Spider-Man.

Alone and grieving the death of his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), Peter dons a new comic-accurate red-and-blue suit and sets off once again to save the day in his fourth solo movie and seventh appearance in the Marvel universe.

The fourth standalone movie, which is set to be released on July 31, looks more dramatic than ever as Peter Parker attempts to win back his MJ (Zendaya)

In the first look trailer, Peter tries to gain the courage to reintroduce himself to MJ and Ned as they head off to MIT. 

During a flat party, MJ cosies up with Flash Thompson (Tony Revolori) as Peter watches his former girlfriend and his high school bully flirt. 

He reflected: ‘Sometimes Spider-Man has to do the hard thing even if it breaks Peter Parker’s heart’.

In dramatic scenes, Spider-Man is seen in explosive battles swinging from a tank in the streets of New York, but something is wrong with his iconic suit. 

In one intense moment, Tom showed off his chiselled abs as he woke up as Peter in a spider web hanging from a high-rise building, ‘What is happening to me?’ he questioned. 

As he broke through the webbing Peter tried to use his powers to save himself from plummeting to the ground but his powers had disappeared. 

Peter went to ask Dr Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) for help, who told him: ‘If DNA is mutating, it would be enormously dangerous. 

‘Spiders have three life cycles, when between cycles it can leave the spider vulnerable to threats… and for those that make it through, it amounts to a rebirth’.

In an emotional scene, Peter crouched down in the rain while visiting his Aunt May’s grave to leave flowers. 

There are several new and returning faces from the Marvel universe in. In addition to Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk and Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, Michael Mando’s Scorpion is back from Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Sadie Sink (Stranger Things), Tramell Tillman (Severance), Liza Colon-Zayas (The Bear) and Marvin Jones II, who’s playing the gangster Tombstone, also join the cast.

A synopsis of the film reads: ‘After the record-breaking global success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks an entirely new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man. 

‘Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. 

‘Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.’

Brand New Day marks the first time Tom has swung into theaters as Marvel’s wall-crawler since the 2021 blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home.

That movie grossed more than $1.9 billion at the global box office, plus introduced Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Sony versions of Spider-Man into the MCU.

Tom shared the movie trailer on Instagram, writing: ‘A brand new day starts now. I can’t wait to share this movie with you. Watch the official trailer for #SpidermanBrandNewDay – exclusive in theatres July 31st’.

It comes as Zendaya is set to have a busy year as she shared her first trailer for Dune: Part Three on Wednesday, which is set to be released on December 18 this year.

The American actress stars alongside Timothée Chalamet, Robert Pattinson and Florence Pugh in the upcoming epic space opera film directed by Denis Villeneuve.

Zendaya has also been busy promoting new romance movie alongside co-star Robert Pattinson which is set to be released on April 3. 

In The Drama, Zendaya plays Emma Harwood, a bookstore clerk from Baton Rouge, Louisana, who is engaged to Robert’s character Charlie Thompson, a museum director from London.

Their relationship is put to the test when an unexpected turn sends their wedding week off the rails.

Zendaya will also feature in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey as the Greek goddess Athena which is scheduled to drop on July 17. 

She will also return as her iconic character Run Bennett in hit series Euphoria for series three.

It comes as Tom and Zendaya fuelled marriage rumours after her long-time stylist Law Roach said: ‘The wedding has already happened. You missed it.’

When a reporter pressed Roach on whether he was joking or not, he replied: ‘It’s very true.’

Before this, Zendaya had previously sparked marriage speculation when she rocked a dazzling diamond on her left-hand ring finger.

The Daily Mail has previously contacted representatives for them both.

Late last year, Tom had addressed the conjecture during a panel appearance.

When an off-camera reporter referred to Zendaya as his ‘girlfriend,’ Tom couldn’t help but correct him with a laugh.

‘Fiancée,’ he clarified.

The couple first sparked dating rumors in 2016 when they were cast alongside each other in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Insiders at the time claimed the pair had grown close to each other, bonding over their shared experiences of navigating stardom.

Despite being spotted out together on numerous occasions, and even on holiday, they denied they were anything more than friends.

Everything changed in July 2021 when paparazzi captured the actors sharing a kiss inside a car in Los Angeles, finally confirming what fans had long suspected.

Shortly afterwards, Tom confirmed their romance in a sweet Instagram post for Zendaya’s birthday.

‘My MJ, have the happiest of birthdays,’ he said alongside a behind-the-scenes snap from set.

Tom previously said how they are both determined to keep their love affair private because it has ‘nothing to do with’ their acting careers.

He told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘Our relationship is something that we are incredibly protective of and we want to keep as sacred as possible.

‘We don’t think that we owe it to anyone, it’s our thing, and it has nothing to do with our careers.’
