AMERICAN Idol executive Robin Kaye and her husband were shot to death with their own gun by an intruder who later identified himself to cops, prosecutors said.

Investigators have spilled new details on the deaths of Kaye and her songwriter husband Thomas Deluca, both 70, after they were found dead in their Los Angeles, California, mansion on July 14.

Raymond Boodarian, 22, has been arrested and accused of breaking into the couple’s $3.4 million mansion in Encino on July 10 and killing them when they came back home from a grocery trip.

The terrifying murders have sent a wave of fear across the community, and left many wondering how the deaths could go days without answers.

In a news conference Monday evening, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman gave an updated timeline of the investigation as he spoke to concerned locals.

On July 10, before 4 pm, a neighbor called 911 and reported that an intruder had broken into Kaye’s house, according to an arrest warrant seen by the Los Angeles Times.

Cops got a second 911 call around 40 minutes after the first, and someone claiming to be a resident said that an intruder had broken in, according to the warrant.

At some point during the call, the 911 dispatcher heard someone say “Please don’t shoot me,” and deployed officers to the property.

The caller later said that they didn’t need police assistance and hung up. Dispatch tried to get back in touch with the caller but couldn’t.

Officers and air support divisions raced to the scene, but no one would answer the door.

They attempted to enter the home at two access points, but they were both locked, LAPD spokesperson Jennifer Forkish said.

According to Forkish, cops left the property because they couldn’t see any signs of a break-in.

Boodarian was arrested one day after the bodies were found, and five days after the couple is believed to have been murdered.

After the couple’s bodies were found, he was seen hopping over a wall surrounding the property and opening an unlocked sliding glass door in surveillance footage obtained by investigators, cops said.

In a stunning admission, Hochman told reporters, “Mr. Boodarian got caught because he used his cell phone to contact police concerning the situation, actually identified himself by name.”

“Police were able to ping the cell phone, find out where he lived, go to his residence, and arrest him.”

Hochman said they were able to find the gun used in the double murder, and determined that it belonged to the couple.

“It was exceptionally tragic,” said Hochman.

COUPLE REMEMBERED

Kaye was a longtime music supervisor for American Idol and has been remembered as the “cornerstone” of the program, American Idol told the Los Angeles Times.

“She was truly loved and respected by all who came in contact with her,” the statement read.

One close family friend said the couple had been trying to crack down on security ever since someone broke into their home on May 19.

They reportedly had spoken to a bodyguard service and security consultant to try and get peace of mind after their home was targeted.

“They had spikes on the other side of the fence, and obviously updated their video surveillance as well,” the friend told Fox News.

“They had video surveillance already.”

The close friend said he was mortified to hear of their deaths, as they were beloved neighbors who had no enemies.

“They were living life to the fullest. They traveled a lot. They have some great animals,” the friend explained.

“They have a turtle that they found at their first house they bought when they moved to LA, and they’ve taken their turtle with them every place.”

Boodarian was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree burglary, and he’s being held without bail in a Los Angeles correctional facility.

If he’s convicted of the charges, he could spend life in prison.

Boodarian’s next court appearance has been scheduled for August 20.

Investigators are still working to determine whether he had a connection to the couple.
