The spotlight is once again on America’s Next Top Model as it prepares for an introspective examination.
Tyra Banks, the iconic host who guided the series through its initial 22 cycles, is one of the voices featured in a forthcoming documentary titled Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, set to premiere on Netflix on February 16.
“I’ve remained mostly silent,” the 52-year-old reveals in the trailer released on January 26, “but now feels like the right moment to speak out.”
In another segment, she discusses her intent to challenge the norms of the fashion world with the show’s bold approach, which spanned 24 seasons. However, she acknowledges that she occasionally pushed boundaries too far to satisfy the audience’s thirst for drama.
“I realized I had crossed a line,” Tyra admits. “The intensity was overwhelming, but that’s what you were asking for, so we just kept escalating. More and more and more.”
Several of the series’ original judges are also featured in the doc, including J. Alexander and Nigel Barker, who at one point says that they “felt betrayed” by Tyra. The show’s creative director Jay Manuel also appears in Reality Check.
