Tyrese Gibson is requesting a reduction in his child support payments to ex-wife Samantha Lee, citing a significant drop in his income,

According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Tyrese claims his earnings have fallen by 85% since the original order was put in place. The actor, who was once making $275,000 a month, now reportedly brings in $39,000 per month.

Tyrese and Samantha share 5-year-old daughter Soraya, and in 2023, a judge awarded Samantha primary custody while setting Tyrese’s child support at $10,000 per month. In his latest filing, he argues that the amount no longer reflects his financial reality.

“The income of [Tyrese] has drastically reduced since 2022 when the evidence was taken at the final trial in August 2022. Traditionally, as a self- employed individual, [Tyrese’s] income has fluctuated for his entire career over the past 26 years,” his lawyer stated.

His legal team further argued that as of September 2024, Tyrese no longer qualifies as a high-income earner under the law due to the drastic drop in his earnings.

Additionally, they pointed out that Samantha, a certified social worker with both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree, has likely seen an increase in her income since the 2022 ruling. Tyrese hopes to adjust the payments based on both of their current financial situations.

“Consequently, [Tyrese’]s child support obligation should be modified based upon the current incomes of both parties effective immediately,” the actor’s lawyer wrote in the filing.

The legal battle comes months after Tyrese faced a brief arrest in 2023 for allegedly failing to make child support payments, with the court claiming he owed $73,525.73. After his release, the singer and actor took to social media, calling the experience “very traumatic.”

Samantha has not yet responded to the new petition.
