Tyrese Gibson is marking a significant milestone in his daughter Shayla’s life with a heartfelt celebration.
The actor and musician took to Instagram on Sunday to share a touching video of Shayla’s prom night. In the clip, the young lady can be seen posing alongside her date, radiating excitement as they prepare for the evening’s festivities.
The video featured the words “GIBSON HEIR PROM NIGHT” prominently across the screen, capturing the special occasion.
For the event, Tyrese donned an all-white, intricately embellished suit, while Shayla dazzled in a shimmering champagne gown adorned with a stylish thigh-high slit. Her date complemented her look with a classic black tuxedo and a velvet bow tie.
In addition to the video, Tyrese expressed his pride and emotions in a heartfelt message, reflecting on Shayla’s upcoming graduation and the new adventures that await her.
“#MyShayla changed my life forever….This is my first born, Shayla Gibson… The heir to the Gibson legacy and empire that I’m still building brick by brick,” he wrote.
The Fast & Furious actor also reflected on some of the personal struggles he has faced over the years while raising his daughter.
“If ‘putting it all on the line for your child’ was a person… it would be me,” Tyrese shared. “I stand here today as a survivor of family court, divorce, public judgment, private pain, reputation hits, sleepless nights and every test imaginable… but I never stopped showing up as a PRESENT father. Never.”
Tyrese went on to reveal that Shayla had recently been accepted into college on a full scholarship.
“Her last day of school was 48 hours ago… and my baby just got accepted into college on a FULL RIDE,” he wrote.
He also shared how proud he is watching his daughter succeed academically.
“Her GPA surpassed mine years ago. In many ways, I’m healing parts of my own upbringing by watching my daughters rise higher than I ever did. That’s the goal. That’s generational growth.”
Tyrese closed the post by calling the moment one of the proudest of his life.
“This may honestly be one of the proudest moments of my life since the day you were born,” he wrote. “Thank you Jesus… because I am nothing without you.”
Tyrese shares Shayla with ex-wife Norma Gibson. He is also father to daughter Soraya Lee Gibson, whom he shares with ex-wife Samantha Lee.
