Penn Badgley and Meghann Fahy will bring Sarah Hogle’s bestselling romance novel You Deserve Each Other to life on the big screen.
Hogle’s debut novel, You Deserve Each Other, was published in April 2020. The lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers romance follows Naomi Westfield and Nicholas “Nick” Rose in the lead-up to their wedding. The catch? Neither wants to get married — but they don’t want to get stuck paying the bill for the canceled nuptials either.
You Deserve Each Other was adapted for the silver screen in 2025, with Badgley and Fahy being cast as Nick and Naomi, respectively.

Who Is Starring in ‘You Deserve Each Other’?
Badgley and Fahy are the only actors whose casting has been formally announced thus far.
Who Wrote the ‘You Deserve Each Other’ Script?
Brett Haley and Marc Basch wrote an early draft, which Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn (Never Been Kissed, He’s Just Not That Into You) revised. Silverstein and Kohn will also co-direct the film.
What Is Sarah Hogle’s Novel About?
The book charts Naomi and Nick’s journey to the altar as they each pull off elaborate schemes and pranks in an attempt to get the other to call off the nuptials first. Of course, in true romantic-comedy fashion, the duo might just remember why they fell in love along the way.
Has Filming Started?
Badgley and Fahy were spotted on set in New York City in July 2025. (The book is notably set in the Midwest, so it is currently unclear how the cityscape could tweak the story line.)

What Have Penn Badgley and Meghann Fahy Said About Each Other?
To tease the film, Badgley and Fahy went viral in summer 2025 with a series of playful social media banter.
“So I don’t usually do this, but my wife [Domino Kirke] and I just finished Sirens. OK Sirens, want to give her her flowers,” he said in an Instagram Reel. “Now obviously there’s Julianne, there’s Kevin, there’s Milly, but this Meghann Fahy. This newcomer, this refreshing gawky beauty, love it, love you.”
Fahy replied, “Penn! This is so kind. Thank you. Tell Domino I say hi. And that her taste is flawless.”
Badgley’s “newcomer” line was seemingly in reference to Fahy’s cameo on an episode of his Gossip Girl series. Since playing an assistant to a rival of Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick), Fahy has gone on to star in the likes of The Bold Type, The White Lotus and Drop.
Is There a Premiere Date for ‘You Deserve Each Other’?
