The Abandons, which debuted on Netflix on December 4, has stirred a mix of reactions despite its celebrated cast and high anticipation, leaving its future uncertain.
This Netflix Original Western action-drama, envisioned by Kurt Sutter—who left the project just weeks before filming concluded—unfolds in 1854 America. It portrays a tale of widowed matriarchs from two contrasting families clashing in the rugged, lawless landscape of the Washington Territory.
In the series, Lena Headey stars as Fiona Nolan, a fiercely protective figure for her group of orphans and outcasts known as the Abandons. Their unity, forged through love and loyalty, faces a formidable challenge with the arrival of Gillian Anderson’s character, Constance Van Ness, and her ambitious aristocratic family.
The narrative takes a dramatic turn as these disparate groups find their destinies intertwined by crime, a buried secret, a forbidden romance, and a sought-after piece of land. This convergence leads them on a shared path marked by passion, betrayal, and resilience.
Despite holding a modest 30% approval from critics and a 50% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, The Abandons has nonetheless attracted a significant viewership and sparked lively online discussions, especially after its season finale left viewers hanging with a suspenseful cliffhanger.

Will There Be The Abandons Season 2 On Netflix?
As of right now, there is no confirmation of a The Abandons Season 2, but there hasn’t been any news of the show’s cancellation yet either. For now we continue to wait for an official renewal or cancellation notice from Netflix, but with the cliffhanger at the end of Season 1, it seems clear that there is still more story to be told.
What Could Happen in The Abandons Season 2?
Since nothing is confirmed, there’s no way of knowing for sure what The Abandons Season 2 would be about, but we still have our guesses.
The Abandons Season 2 would, of course, reveal who between Fiona or Constance survived their fiery brawl, as well as track the aftermath of their families as they try to pick up the pieces of what’s left behind. Beyond that, we will likely pick up with Elias Teller (Nick Robinson) and Trisha Van Ness (Aisling Franciosi) in the wake of their failed star-crossed love story, and we will also probably see Dahlia Teller (Diana Silvers) continue to transform in the wake of the horrible abuses and trials she has suffered at the hands of Constance.
Ultimately, only time will tell what The Abandons Season 2, or if we’ll see a second season at all.
The Abandons is now streaming on Netflix.
