Janelle Brown has reached a pivotal moment in her life where she is embracing her true self without reservations.

Having spent years in the public eye as part of America’s most renowned polygamous family, the Sister Wives star is now savoring a simpler and more deliberate lifestyle after moving from Arizona to North Carolina. In a recent social media update, Janelle conveyed that she is now the author of her own story, and she’s never been happier.

Janelle Brown opens up about ‘strange’ aspect of being a reality TV star

Back in 2010, Janelle and her family invited viewers into their unique lives as polygamist Mormons on their TLC series. Fast forward fifteen years, and while the show continues, the family dynamics have significantly shifted. Janelle, along with her fellow sister wives Meri Brown and Christine Brown, have parted ways with their husband, Kody Brown, who now remains with only one wife, Robyn Brown. Over the years, the three former sister wives have become more open about how the reality depicted on Sister Wives didn’t always align with their personal experiences.

For Janelle, there was frequently a disconnect between her on-screen portrayal and her true self.

“For so long I felt like I was running to catch up with the version of me the world created… the strong one, the steady one, the one who didn’t bend even when things were heavy,” she wrote.

“But there were so many pieces of me that never made it onto a screen and now, in this quieter chapter, I’m realizing how good it feels to finally share from my heart instead of a storyline,” she continued.

“It’s vulnerable, yes, but also really freeing,” Janelle wrote. “It feels like reclaiming something I didn’t even realize I lost.”

With her troubled marriage behind her and a new home on the other side of the country, Janelle is embracing her next chapter. That includes starting a new business, Second Chapter Coaching, designed to help women who’ve realized something needs to shift in their lives.

“Now that life is quieter, I’m learning to open up in ways I never had space to before,” she wrote on a photo of herself enjoying an ocean view from a balcony.

Other ‘Sister Wives’ stars are forging their own paths

While Janelle and the rest of the Browns are still participating in Sister Wives, all of Kody’s exes have branched out beyond the show.

Christine has remarried and now frequently speaks about embracing health and wellness in her 50s. She also penned a memoir, Sister Wife: Memoir of Faith, Family, and Finding Freedom. In the book, she opens up about her childhood in a polygamous family and her experiences with Kody and her sister wives.

Meanwhile, Meri keeps busy running her own B&B in Utah. She has also started Worthy Up, “a community that celebrates individual growth and empowerment through inspiration, insight, and impact.”
