Netflix is kicking off 2026 with a splash, fueled by a recent rumor that’s gaining traction.
On Wednesday, Netflix revealed its ambitious lineup for 2026, featuring three new series from the brains behind Stranger Things, Matt and Ross Duffer. Returning to the screen this year are beloved series like Bridgerton, Love is Blind, Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black, The Hunting Wives, Outer Banks, The Four Seasons, Emily in Paris, and Running Point.
Meanwhile, a recent tweet has sparked curiosity regarding a possible risqué addition to the platform. @HoopsCrave posted on X on Saturday, January 3, suggesting that “Netflix will introduce adult content next month under a new section called ‘Netflix After Dark.’”
Wondering if this new category is genuine? Here’s what we’ve uncovered about the reality of “Netflix After Dark.”
Is Netflix introducing Netflix After Dark?
The answer is no. According to Netflix Junkie, the streaming giant has not confirmed this rumor, and the platform already employs maturity ratings. Readers have added context to the post, identifying it as “a recurring viral hoax.”
In fact, @HoopsCrave, the account responsible for the post, brands themself as a “parody account” in their bio. Other instances of fake news being perpetuated by the account over just the last few days alone include a claim on Sunday ( Jan. 4) that “Spotify will introduce a new feature that plays music based on your financial situation,” and a post shared yesterday (Jan. 6) that reads, “Netflix is bringing back password sharing on February 14.” With respect to the latter post, Netflix is one of several streaming services that has instituted password sharing crackdowns.
“Netflix After Dark” isn’t the only rumor that has since been dispelled in relation to Netflix this week. Fans of Stranger Things suspected following last week’s series finale that another episode would arrive, formulating a conspiracy referred to as “Conformity Gate.” While a new episode does not appear to be in the cards, a behind-the-scenes documentary called One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5 is heading to Netflix on Monday, Jan. 12.
