Who is the charming Scottish voice behind Love Island?
Iain Stirling is the voice behind both the U.K. and U.S. editions of Love Island. During production, his schedule is remarkably hectic.
“By noon in the U.K., I begin my work on Love Island UK,” the comedian shared with TODAY in 2024. “By that time, most of the show is ready. We spend two to three hours writing, wrapping up around 4 or 4:30. Afterward, it’s family time with dinner, bath, and bedtime—while not exactly rock ‘n’ roll, that’s my reality. Then I have a bite to eat before logging on to Love Island USA at 8:30, corresponding to an early start on Fiji time.”
Stirling reviews a preliminary edit from home via Zoom, as executive producer Parrish told The Wrap. He and the team highlight amusing moments or important story elements, which Stirling records using his home microphone setup.
His commentary is inserted into the episode before it undergoes review by Peacock’s legals and standards team, who at times request last-minute adjustments.
“We’d try to finish by about 12 or 1 in the morning, then I’d stay up till half to 3 — which is still not the end of the show for the U.S.,” Stirling told TODAY. “In a dream world, I’d be staying up ‘til like, 5, 6, in the morning, but that would basically involve me never sleeping.”
Proof that the franchise can produce a forever bond: Stirling married former Love Island UK host Laura Whitmore in 2020 and they welcomed a daughter in March 2021.
