Shandi Sullivan Earns the Moniker “The Girl Who Cheated”

During Cycle 2 of America’s Next Top Model, finalist Shandi Sullivan, who was in a relationship back home, found herself at the center of controversy. In a memorable episode titled “The Girl Who Cheated,” which aired on March 16, 2004, Shandi was caught on camera in bed with a male model after a night of partying at the contestants’ residence in Milan. Reflecting on the incident in the 2026 Netflix documentary series Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, Shandi revealed that she was intoxicated and had blacked out, expressing her belief that the production team should have stepped in to prevent the situation.

“I feel like after getting out of the hot tub and whatever happened after that,” Shandi remarked in the series, “they should have intervened, like, ‘Alright, this has gone too far, we need to get her out of this situation.'”

The ANTM episode also showed Shandi in tears the following morning. She called her boyfriend to confess the infidelity and reached out to the model in Milan to inquire about potential STDs.

When asked about Shandi’s situation, Tyra Banks commented in Reality Check, “I do remember her story. Discussing production details is a bit challenging for me because that wasn’t my domain.”

Executive producer Ken Mok said in the doc, “We treated Top Model as a documentary and we told the girls on day one, we’d go over the rules with them, there’s going to be cameras on you 24/7, day in and day out, and they’re going to cover everything, the good, the bad and the in-between.”

Added Tyra, “I’m not head of story, that’s Ken Mok. But I did become a master editor. It’s important for people to know that we didn’t put everything on TV.”

E! News reached out to Tyra and Ken for comment but did not hear back.
