Social media commentator Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has sparked reactions online after revealing a high-stakes bet he made with his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, over Argentina’s chances of winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 2026 tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is set to conclude on Sunday, July 19, 2026, with defending champions Argentina facing Spain in the final.
Ahead of the highly anticipated showdown, VDM took to his Instagram Story on Friday, July 17, to disclose the wager between him and Adeyanju. According to him, the lawyer had repeatedly reached out to discuss Lionel Messi’s chances of securing another World Cup title, prompting him to turn their debate into a formal challenge.
Making his stance known, VeryDarkMan insisted that he does not believe Messi and Argentina will emerge victorious in the final. He offered to pay Adeyanju N20 million if Argentina lifts the trophy, while Adeyanju would pay him the same amount if the team fails to win.
VDM wrote:
