A veterinary technician made a shocking discovery on her first day of work, and now the emotional footage is going viral.
TikToker Kelsey gained over 15 million views, 2 million likes and 11,000 comments when she filmed her friend Hayley breaking down at the front desk, just moments after her revelation.
Just like the woman who traced her family history on Ancestry and uncovered her relatives’ mysterious secret names, Hayley’s discovery proves that when it comes to family, the truth is rarely simple.
“Gets a new job at a vet hospital, finds out her cat did NOT, in fact, run away,” the video’s caption reads.
Haley, unsure whether to laugh or cry in the footage, explains that it all began when she typed her last name into the office’s computer to pull up her account. That’s when she noticed someone’s file with the same last name.
“So I clicked on it, and it’s my mom’s account,” she says between sniffles. “She brought my cat here and got it euthanized — but she told me it ran away!”
“Oh no! Oh my God! That is terrible,” a co-worker is heard saying in the background.
“How long ago was this?” Kelsey asks in shock from behind the camera.
“2017!” Haley replies, collapsing into tearful laughter.
Kelsey later followed up with more information, likely in response to many comments the video was receiving. “1) we do not euthanize healthy animals. Her cat was sick and her parents chose not to tell her. 2) she was crying and laughing bc she was emotional,” she wrote in the comments.
“I would never speak to my mom again…”
Over 11,000 TikTokers expressed their shock in the comment section of the video.
“I’d rather know my pet died when it happens than go years thinking they were suffering and scared out in the wild 🙁 I’d be so mad,” one user wrote.
“I have NEVER felt more validated about telling my kid the truth. Yea, it’s f-ing hard, but at least he won’t have to re-grieve!” another user shared.

“I’d be so mad! Saying good bye to a loved pet is heartbreaking but it I would be even more heartbreaking knowing I didn’t get to say goodbye,” commented another user.
“That’s awful! My parents would never do that. They sent my chihuahua to live on a farm with other chihuahuas. Prayers to you 🙏,” one user joked.
“The pure love of a mom to bear the pain of putting their cat to rest so her child didnt have to endure that 🥺,” another user wrote.
“I would never speak to my mom again 😭,” commented another user.
“Thanksgiving gonna be wild this year 😂,” wrote another user.
While we don’t have Haley’s mom’s side of the story, it’s safe to assume she likely did what she believed was best at the time and simply wanted to spare her daughter’s feelings.
