A Nigerian woman recently ignited conversations online by recounting a distressing and embarrassing incident where her card was declined at a restaurant.
In a tweet posted under the handle @freakin_snow on X (formerly known as Twitter), she described how the payment failure happened right after she had finished her meal, instantly capturing the attention of those nearby.
“The service staff and some women around started giving me strange looks. One woman even commented, ‘This is what they do, wandering around embarrassing themselves, these jobless girls waiting for men to cover their expenses,’” she recounted.
She further explained that a gentleman eventually stepped in to settle her bill, but the situation soon took a turn for the awkward.
After assisting her, the man asked for her phone number. However, she turned down his request, explaining that she was already in a committed relationship.
“He asked for my number and I told him I was in a relationship. He flipped and started asking why I didn’t call my boyfriend to help me out. He started calling me names,” she added.
Overwhelmed by the situation, she said she had to leave immediately, vowing never to return to the restaurant again.
Many reactions have followed her revelation. One user wrote, “That’s so embarrassing. Gosh😭.” Another added, “Just because he paid 50k? He shouldn’t have acted like that.”
Her story has sparked conversations online about public shaming, entitlement, and how acts of kindness should not come with conditions.
