After playing his college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes, wide receiver Terry McLaurin was selected by the then-Washington Redskins in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
In his first game, McLaurin recorded five receptions for 125 yards and a touchdown. Over his next two games, he caught at least five passes and scored a touchdown, making him the first player in league history to achieve that in their first three career appearances. McLaurin was named to the Pro Bowl in 2022. He was selected to his second Pro Bowl in 2024 after another stellar year which saw him catching passes from rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Now, fans want to know all about the star wideout and his life off the field. Here’s more on McLaurin and his fiancée, Caitlin Winfrey.
How long McLaurin and Winfrey have been together
McLaurin and Winfrey are high school sweethearts. They met when they were both students at Cathedral High School in Indianapolis. But they didn’t start popping up on each other’s social media pages until March 2022 when the football player posted a sweet tribute to Winfrey on her birthday.
“Happy birthday Love, I’m truly thankful for you and the role you’ve played in my life,” he wrote via Instagram. “Simply put, I’m better because of you. I pray that this year you receive everything you deserve and that God blesses you beyond your biggest dreams. I love you.”
On March 9, 2023, McLaurin posted another birthday tribute letting her know he is grateful to have her in his life writing: “Happy Birthday my love. I love how you can light up any room you walk into with your infectious personality. You deserve endless love and blessings and I thank God for you every day. I feel like I can do anything because of your love and support. I love you for this life and the next.”
There isn’t a ton of information available about Winfrey as her Instagram account is private but it’s been reported that she attended Indiana University and graduated with a nursing degree in August 2020.
When the couple got engaged
In December 2023, McLaurin proposed to Winfrey at The Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory in Florida.
The pair shared a series of photos capturing the moment. In one photo, McLaurin can be seen down on one knee while on a brick path with Winfrey by the conservatory garden. In other snaps, the two are shown exiting a small boat as they arrive at a beach with the sun setting in the background.
Sharing the happy news on Instagram, the athlete said: “I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with the person who has my heart. Caitlin, I thank God for granting me favor and bringing our journeys together. I am so excited to see what he has in store for us as we navigate this life hand and hand. Home is wherever you are and I’m at my best when I’m with you. I love you.”
Winfrey’s engagement ring went viral
Following the proposal, Winfrey showed off her engagement ring.
According to Ritani, her sparkler is an “oval-cut diamond, estimated to be between 5 and 7 carats on a French-set diamond-covered band.”
The publication noted that oval-cut engagement rings have seen a surge in popularity recently “since oval-cut diamonds show more of their surface area than round-cut diamonds, they appear larger than their actual carat size, and due to their elongated silhouette, they have a lengthening and slimming effect on the wearer’s fingers.”
