CBS is going all out for The Amazing Race‘s biggest season ever.

Season 37 of the long-running game show kicks off tonight with 14 teams competing for $1 million grand prize. It’s the largest cast the show has had in 37 seasons. CBS is deeming this supersized season a “season of surprises,” where every episode will feature a “game-changing twist.”

Per Variety, elements from the show’s past will make a comeback in addition to staple game elements like “fast forward” and “U-turn,” and a brand new twist will debut in the race’s first leg. Dubbed the “fork in the road,” teams will arrive at a fork in the road and have to choose which way to go down on their way to the pit stop, creating two parallel races where two teams will be eliminated.

In an August 2024 interview with GoldDerby, The Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan said, “There’s just some things that come of left field for the contestants and I think the viewers will find it fun. Not necessarily new twists but just surprises.”
