It’s time to boldly go back into Paramount+’s Star Trek extended universe.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is set to return for its third season on July 17, nearly two years after Season 2 wrapped up.
Strange New Worlds is a prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series (1966-1969) that follows Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and the crew of the starship Enterprise in the 10 years before Captain Kirk is at the helm of the Enterprise.
Among the series’ characters are a younger Spock (Ethan Peck), Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush), and Montgomery Scott (Martin Quinn) — all characters who first appeared in The Original Series.
The new season will take the crew of the Enterprise to, well, strange new worlds as they continue on a five-year mission. Showrunner Akiva Goldsman told Variety that the show will continue to “genre-hop” in Season 3 as the characters’ stories continue to unfold. Ahead of Season 3, the show received an early Season 4 renewal, and an additional six-episode Season 5 order, which will be Strange New Worlds‘ last.
