Welcome, campers, to Battle Camp! The competition series is hosted by former NFL lineman and podcaster Taylor Lewan, star of Bussin with the Boys. Lewan, the “head counselor,” is the master of games, where campers compete in physical and mental challenges for their teams to achieve immunity from the dreadful elimination wheel. The final camper standing is awarded the grand prize of $250,000.

The campers of Battle Camp may look familiar, as most contestants are veterans of the Netflix reality universe (NRU). According to Netflix’s Tudum, the reality stars are from The Ultimatum: Queer Love, Perfect Match, Cheer, Too Hot to Handle, Selling the OC, Love Is Blind, The Circle, and more.

The contest spans over 10 episodes, filming on a nostalgic set in a remote location, but where exactly was Battle Camp filmed?

Where is Battle Camp filmed?

According to Tudum, the campgrounds of Battle Camp sit outside the U.S. in the country of Mexico. The camp itself isn’t authentic since the show was filmed over the summer when camp was in session in the U.S., forcing production to build their camp from basically scratch for the series.

Series creator Mathieu Weekes spoke with Tudum about the location, “The geography and the topography was perfect in terms of the trees and the look and the dam, but other than a very, very rudimentary crumbling toilet block, there was nothing else there,” said Weekes. “All the cabins and dining areas, we built all of that in situ,” Tudum reported that it took about six weeks to complete construction.

A more specific report by Moviedelic suggests that filming was outside of Mexico City. It highlights some prominent mountain peaks that can be seen in the show’s background, including Ajusco, Pico del Águila, Cerro Maravilla, and many more.

Moviedelic noted that filming began in March and wrapped up in over a month. The month, however, wasn’t just filled with camp cheer; the host Lewan told Moviedelic about his filming experience, “It was 30+ days of late nights and early mornings, trying to figure out how to swim in this brand-new ocean. The cast was amazing to be around, but the production team was something I’d never seen before. A staff of over 400 people, all working together to create the best product possible, while trusting a football player with fake teeth to facilitate and drive this new show.”

This is Lewan’s first experience hosting a television series.

Camp is supposed to be good ol’ American fun, but when you throw in 250,000 dollars and film in Mexico, it lives up to its name and becomes a battle.

All episodes are now available to stream on Netflix.
