Whitney Leavitt has opened up about the true motivation behind her return to The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. Her candid revelation has sparked intrigue among fans and fellow cast members alike.
Initially welcomed back into the MomTok fold at the conclusion of Season 2, Leavitt was conspicuously missing from the early episodes of Season 3. Her absence was a topic of discussion, with sources suggesting that her contract renegotiations included ambitious demands, such as tickets to the Oscars and a role in a scripted series. Although she didn’t secure screen time in the first few episodes, Leavitt later clarified the situation, stating she never asked for Oscars tickets but did push for an acting opportunity.
In a lighthearted moment during a confessional, she remarked, “A girl knows what she wants.”
Leavitt’s return in Season 3, Episode 5, prompted curiosity about her change of heart. She revealed to her friends Kacie and Kaylee, “I just found out if I came back to film then I can audition for Dancing with the Stars next week.” This opportunity was too appealing to pass up.
Explaining her decision, Leavitt shared, “After last season, I did decide to step away from the show, but I never quit MomTok. I was always and am still part of that group. I just really needed a break. But then I heard from my team that Dancing with the Stars was going to cast someone from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and that’s a motivator. I’ll come back for that.”
Leavitt—who had not talked to most of her co-stars for about two months at the time this was filmed—left the MomTok election in Season 2 feeling “pissed” about the “half-ass vote” she got to be let back into the group. When she reunited with everyone for the first time this season, she tearfully opened up about how “exhausted” she was trying to rebuild friendships in a group that did not welcome her. This time around, Leavitt said she was looking at MomTok as a “business” rather than a “sisterhood.”
When confronted by Taylor Frankie Paul and the rest of the girls about her true intentions behind returning to the group, Leavitt bluntly admitted, “I’m filming because I was offered the opportunity to audition and I’m so excited for one of us to get it. I’m not coming back to the sisterhood. I’m gonna start my own MomTok and hopefully find a space that I feel welcome in.”
As we know, Leavitt and Jen Affleck were the two Secret Lives of Mormon Wives stars chosen to compete in Dancing with the Stars Season 34. Affleck, who was partnered with Jan Ravnik, was eliminated from the competition during Halloween week, while Leavitt, who is partnered with Mark Ballas, is still going strong in the competition, which comes to a close next week.
Will this season of Mormon Wives ruin any good will she’s earned on Dancing with the Stars? Or will her brutal honesty motivate more fans to vote for her? We’ll just have to wait and see!
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 3 is currently streaming on Hulu.
