A Nigerian woman has ignited a storm of online reactions by recounting a surprising tale about her younger cousin allegedly squandering ₦150,000 intended for business on a lavish night at a club.
The woman took to X to share her story, revealing that she chose to financially back her cousin after numerous relatives vouched for the young woman’s diligence and genuine intent to launch a small enterprise.
With trust, she provided the funds, anticipating they would help her cousin achieve financial independence.
However, the situation took an unexpected twist weeks later when she stumbled upon videos showing her cousin’s extravagant partying at a nightclub, throwing cash around with friends.
Shock after discovering club videos
Reflecting on the event, she expressed shock upon discovering the Snapchat footage and promptly confronted her cousin about the supposed business endeavors.
She wrote: “Last month, I gave my younger cousin ₦150k to start a small business because the whole family kept saying she was serious and hardworking.”
“Two weeks later, I saw her on Snapchat spraying money in a club with her friends.”
According to her, the cousin admitted using the money for enjoyment instead of investing it.
“Life is short. I used the money to enjoy myself first.”
The statement, she said, left her deeply disappointed, especially after the sacrifice she made to provide the financial support.
Family reaction fuels frustration
The situation reportedly became more upsetting after another family member defended the cousin’s actions.
The lady disclosed that her aunt later contacted her and urged her to be more understanding because the cousin was still young.
“What annoyed me most was that my aunt still called me later and said I should ‘understand her’ because she’s young.”
Feeling betrayed and unsupported, the woman said she decided to stop offering financial help to relatives altogether.
“Since that day, I stopped helping relatives financially.”
She added that several family members have since accused her of being proud and wicked over her decision.
“Now everybody in the family is calling me proud and wicked. Was I wrong for cutting everyone off after that?”
