In Zamfara State, tensions have flared following the circulation of a video showing a House of Representatives member coming under attack by a group of disgruntled youths. The lawmaker is accused of neglect and underperformance.
The confrontation took place in Dansadau during what appeared to be an official visit or a public event.
The viral footage captures the moment when the legislator, Kabiru Mikailu, faced a hostile reception. The crowd, visibly angry, was seen dragging, shoving, and throwing stones at him during his historic visit to the area.
According to a report from Channels Television, the dissatisfied youths accused Mikailu of turning his back on the community since assuming office. They claim he has been absent from significant local events and has failed to engage with the people he represents.
Several residents expressed their frustration, alleging that Mikailu skipped important festivities, such as Sallah, and did not visit families who have suffered due to the frequent bandit attacks plaguing the region.
Despite the presence of security personnel, the situation quickly spiraled out of control as the crowd overwhelmed efforts to calm the unrest.
The lawmaker was eventually rescued and escorted away from the scene, though he sustained physical and emotional distress.
As of filing this report, neither the Nigeria Police Force nor the Zamfara State Government has released an official statement on the incident or confirmed whether any arrests were made.
The video has sparked widespread reactions online. While some Nigerians condemned the attack and warned against mob justice, others argued it reflects growing anger among citizens who feel abandoned by their elected representatives.
