It’s official, Zaya Wade is about to become a high school graduate. The 17-year-old recently shared “stunning” senior pictures, urging her father, legendary NBA player, Dwayne Wade, ‘not to cry’.

Wade shared the images on social media, captioning the pair of pictures, “senior pics, try not to cry, dad,” with a single black heart emoji separating the phrase.

Unlike images from her runway moments or various cover magazine interviews, these images mark a traditional milestone for the teenager, signaling that she is about to enter the next stage of her life’s journey.

Of course, the comments section of Wade’s post was filled with heart emoji’s and congratulatory messages, starting off with her father’s simple comment, “Just proud that I get to see this day,” followed by a heart-eyed smiling face emoji.

One social media commenter wrote, “These are perfection. You look gorgeous!”

Another added, “Girl we’re all crying.”

“Gorgeous. So proud and happy for you and your future!” a fourth Instagram user shared.

Zaya has blossomed beyond that of a typically traditional high school student. She has valiantly become the face and voice of a generation not only on the runway, but also by embracing and speaking her truth while encouraging others to do the same as a transgender rights advocate and co-founder of Translatable.

In a previous interview with Dazed Magazine, Zaya took a moment to reflect on her journey up until this point and focus on where the future will take her in terms of speaking out for others.

“So many big changes have happened over the last couple of years with me, but also just in general,” she began.

“I think it’s not my job, but it’s my honor to continue and further my family’s education and appreciation for the entire LBGTQ+ community as we grow together. As our understanding of acceptance has broadened over the past couple of years, we have made the strides to keep ourselves educated and combat the ignorance.”

In addition to Zaya, Wade is also father to son, Zaire, 22, with whom he shares with his ex-wife, Siohvaughn Funches. Wade also shares another son, Xavier, 11, with ex-Aja Metoyer. Wade and actress Gabriel Union are parents to daughter, Kaavia James, and Wade is also the legal guardian of his nephew, Dahveon Morris, 21.

Congratulations, Zaya! We cannot wait to see cap and gown pics up next.
