Francis Lee Death Cause: Francis Lee Dies At Age 79
He passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023, at the age of 79, leaving a tremendous legacy.
The former striker played 330 times for Man City and scored 148 goals.
During the seven years he was at Maine Road between 1967 and 1974, he won the First Division title, the FA Cup, the League Cup, and the European Cup Winners’ Cup.
“Frannie” Lee, who began his professional career in 1959 at Bolton, also won 27 caps for England between 1968 and 1972, making 10 goals in those matches.
In 1994, he went back to Man City, where he served as chairman for four years.
“It is with the deepest sadness and heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of former Manchester City player and Chairman Francis Lee, aged 79,” the club said in a statement.
“A Club legend in every sense, Francis played 330 games and scored 148 goals for City.”
“Everyone at Manchester City would like to express their condolences to Francis’ friends and family at this extremely trying time,” the statement said.
Flags at half-mast are flying around the City Football Academy and Etihad Stadium out of respect.
In the upcoming days, the club will pay further tributes.
Throughout his career, Lee won numerous individual honors, including the Player of the Year award from Man City in 1970 and the First Division Golden Boot in 1972.
Lee won his second First Division championship of his career with Derby in 1975 after leaving City.
When his two-year stint with Derby came to an end, he put his boots away.
Additionally, Bolton posted an homage to Francis Lee, saying: “All of us at Bolton Wanderers are devastated to hear of his demise.
Everyone in the club is thinking about Francis’ family, friends, and loved ones during this trying time.
Paul Dickov, a former City player, also contributed to the condolences, writing: “Such sad news to hear of Francis Lee’s demise.
“A gentleman, a proper football man with a great sense of humor was the main reason I decided to join @ManCity, and I will always be grateful.” Love and sympathy to all of his family and friends. Goodbye, Mr. Chairman.
Fans, notably Man City supporter Liam Gallagher, also paid tribute to a sporting hero.
He inscribed: “Frannie Lee, RIP LG x.”
Another remarked, “RIP Francis Lee. England representative! Winner of the title with Man City and @dcfcofficial. footballer with talent.

Francis Henry Lee was born on April 29, 1944, and he died on the 2nd of October 2023, also known as Franny Lee. His wife’s name is Gill Lee and he has three children- Charlotte, Jonny, and Nik .
He was an English professional footballer who played as a striker. He played for Bolton Wanderers, Manchester City, Derby County, and the England national team.
