Frank Somerville is an American journalist who has been active in the scene since 1991. He is widely noted for his three-decade-long term at KTVU in Oakland, California.
Due to his amazing work, Frank has been able to take home some awards, including three Emmy Awards, and one of the awards he received was for being the best on-camera news anchor.
Following his arrest in December 2021, Somerville was suspended by KTVU, and the suspension also became permanent in January 2022, when his agreement expired. After that, KTVU didn’t re-sign him.

Frank Somerville’s current health condition may be okay, but the journalist has not given any hints about it. So, it is believed that Somerville is not sick.
Furthermore, Somerville was doing well in his personal and professional life, but his mental health and alcohol abuse led to a sharp downfall.
It all started in May 2021 when he was recorded slurring his words and abruptly left mid-broadcast without explanation.
After that, Somerville found himself unemployed and humiliated after public displays of shame, starting with an on-air impairment and concluding with a drunk driving charge.

Frank Somerville Illness Explained In Depth
As stated earlier, Frank Somerville faced some mental issues in the past. Frank was caught struggling through a newscast and slurred his words.
After that, Somerville also said that he mistakenly took two Ambien, a drug used to help someone fall asleep, right before the 10 pm newscast on May 30, 2021.
Also, Frank claimed he was not drunk during that newscast. In addition to that, Frank also spent his time in rehab while he was off the air for nine weeks.
Due to his struggles with multiple things in his life, Somerville also faced mental illness, which the journalist has openly talked about with the media.
Following his suspension from KTVU due to the 2021 incident, he once asked for a second chance to renew his contract. Likewise, Frank went on Facebook to tell people his firing had no bearing on the DUI, but he blamed an accumulation of many things, including serious mental health issues.
Where Is Frank Somerville Now?
Frank Somerville is currently making headlines due to his arrest. He was first detained at his brother’s home on Indian Rock Avenue Monday night.
Somerville was allegedly intoxicated and was arrested after he was involved in a fight. After he was released from jail, police received another call just before 3:30 am. Tuesday, saying that Somerville was back at the same house ringing the doorbell.
When police arrived at the scene, they saw Somerville displaying objective signs and symptoms of public intoxication and was seen driving drunk. Due to that, he was again arrested.
Reportedly, he is now incarcerated at the Santa Rita Jail and is due in court for his arraignment Thursday morning.
