Simon Dunn unexpectedly passed away, shocking Australian sports fans and piquing their curiosity about his cause of death.

The 35-year-old Dunn made bobsledding history by becoming the first openly gay athlete to compete for their nation. After giving up football in 2016, he picked up rugby and began frequently playing for the all-gay Sydney Convicts.

To qualify for the 2022 Winter Olympics, Dunn returned to the bobsled in 2021. But when he tore his bicep, his dream was over.

In 2018 and 2019, Dunn was a finalist for the Australian LGBTI Awards Sports Personality of the Year honor. He had previously declared that his passion would always be serving his local community and advocacy groups while looking into new ways to give back.

The untimely passing of former bobsledder and rugby player Simon Dunn at age 35 has shocked the Australian sporting and artistic communities. The out gay athlete played rugby for the Sydney Convicts and represented Australia in bobsledding.

Simon Dunn Death Cause: How Did He Die?

According to early reports, Simon Dunn’s death cause is suicide. The Police and his agent, Ruby Rose Management, confirmed his death.

According to NSW Police, Dunn’s body was discovered in his Sydney apartment on Saturday morning, and there is no indication that the circumstances are suspicious.

The terrible news was confirmed by Ruby Rose Management, Dunn’s management team. A Police spokesperson stated: “On Saturday, January 21, 2023, at around 10 am, Police were called to a unit on Crown Street in Surry Hills following reports that a man’s body had been discovered there.

Kitty Glitter, a DJ and drag performer, organized the tributes to Dunn and expressed her shock on Facebook.

She said that she had known him since he was a cute young teen and had seen him grow into a handsome man and talented athlete. She is devastated and in shock. They were all devoted to him.

According to Ruby Rose Management, Simon was passionate about volunteering and giving back to the community. He volunteered his time and used his profile to support numerous charities. Like all great ambassadors, he had his favorites, such as “Pride in Sport,” “Give Out Day,” and the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation.

Simon Dunn Was Battling With Depression

With DNA Magazine Australia, Simon discussed the mental health issues and depression affecting many LGBTIQ community members.

When Simon realized he had no partner, friends, money, or support system, he started to experience depression and anxiety. When he lost interest in going to the gym, he realized something was wrong. 

Previously, he trained for six hours at the gym for competitive sports each day. He withdrew from his partner and started only talking on the phone instead of skyping, which caused anxiety that he had never felt before.

Simon was able to recognize the symptoms and that he needed assistance. As a result, he contacted a doctor with whom he had an open discussion. He advised him to return to the gym, return to Sydney, find employment as a personal trainer, and let things settle back into place.
