Vani Jayaram was an established legendary singer Indian playback singer in South Indian cinema who held the higher command in South Indian Regional Cinema.

The veteran singer was famed for delivering evergreen chartbusters ins several Indian regional languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Tulu, and Oriya.

In addition, she won several National Film Awards as Best Female Playback Singer Thrice. Before her death, she had sung more than 10,000 songs in 19 languages in her active singing days.

Born to a family of classically trained musicians, the legendary singer was honored with the third-highest civilian award Padma Bhushan 2023, by the government of India ahead of Republic Day for her contribution to India Music Industry.

According to the Times of India, the national award winner was found dead at her Chennai-based home on February 4, 2023. Sadly, the reason for her death is unveiled in the media.

Vani’s husband died a few years ago, and the veteran singer used to live alone in her apartment in Chennai. 

The Padmashree singer was lying lifeless when her maid turned up for work morning chores.

Vani’s maid alerted her relatives, who then informed the Police after the singer remained unresponsive despite repeated calls.

Later,Police broke open the door and found her dead at her residence on Haddows Roads, Nungambakkam, in Chennai.

Vani’s husband predeceased her, and she had no children, the singer’s domestic help said.

Vani’s maid, Malarkodi, who has been working for the past decade as a maid in the singer’s House, told reporters that Vani Jayaram did not have any health issues.

Reports claim the 78 years old singer suffered an injury on her forehead at her House on Haddows Road, Nungambakkam, in Chennai. 

Therefore, Vani’s can be suspected due to injury in her head leading to the trauma.

Following reports and scenarios, the forensics team was deployed, and they reached the residence in the evening and collected samples.

After Vani Jayaram’s death surfaced in the media, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid rich tributes to the iconic singer and remembered them for her melodious voice and rich works.

The legendary Padmashree singer’s works covered diverse languages and reflected different emotions, he said in a tweet, adding that her death is a significant loss for the creative world.

In July 2017, the Padma Shree singer was honored as the Best Female Singer at the NAFA 2017 event in New York City.

 In 2012, Vani was honored with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award – South for her achievements in South Indian film music.

The title song ‘Marathe Marikurumbe’ of the film ‘Puli Murugan’ was sung by Vani, and it was listed among the 70 songs that were considered eligible for Oscar nominations in 2018 under the ‘Original Song’ category.

The National Film Awards winner had earned State awards from Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat, and Odisha.

Her career, Vani, started in 1971 and has spanned over five decades; had recorded thousands of devotionals and private albums and participated in numerous solo concerts in India and abroad.
