Jessica Michelle Chastain is an American actress and producer who was born on March 24, 1977. She is well known for starring in films with feminist themes, and she has won numerous awards, including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Tony Award nomination. In 2012, Time magazine listed her among the top 100 world influencers.
Early on, Chastain became interested in performing, and it was as Juliet in Shakespeare’s play that she had her professional theatrical debut in 1998. She graduated from the Juilliard School of Acting with a degree in acting, and the television producer John Wells signed her to a talent-holding contract.
She appeared frequently as a guest star in a number of television shows and played parts in a number of theater musicals. After making her acting debut in the 2008 drama Jolene at the age of 31, Chastain experienced a breakout year in 2011 with the release of six movies, including the dramas Take Shelter and The Tree of Life. She was nominated for Academy Awards for her performances as a CIA analyst in the thriller Zero Dark Thirty (2012) and an aspiring socialite in the period drama The Help (2011).

Her parents were both teenagers when she was born. Chastain is reluctant to publicly discuss her family background; she was estranged from Monasterio, who died in 2013 and has stated that no father is listed on her birth certificate.
She has two sisters and two brothers. Her younger sister, Juliet, died by suicide in 2003 following years of drug addiction. Chastain was raised in Sacramento by her mother and stepfather, Michael Hastey, a firefighter. She says her stepfather was the first person to make her feel secure. She shares a close bond with her maternal grandmother, Marilyn, whom she credits as someone who “always believed in me”

She started dating Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo, an executive for the clothing company Moncler, in 2012. He is an Italian count and a member of the aristocratic Passi de Preposulo family. She wed Preposulo on June 10, 2017, at his family’s farm in Carbonera, Italy. Through surrogacy, the couple gave birth to a daughter in 2018. Later on, they had a son. They are New York City residents.
