Enhance your waistline by incorporating these effective chair exercises into your fitness regime.
Individuals over 60 often face the challenge of accumulating excess abdominal fat. This common issue arises from factors such as a decelerating metabolism, hormonal changes, decreased physical activity, and sarcopenia, which is the natural loss of muscle mass with age. Not only is this extra belly fat unsightly, but it also poses significant health risks, including type-2 diabetes and heart disease. If you’re looking for a quicker way to tone your lower abdomen than traditional gym routines, here’s an excellent alternative.
Jacob Siwicki, the founder and lead coach at Siwicki Fitness, is a certified expert through NCSF and AFAA, a former top 1% globally ranked Equinox group fitness instructor in 2019, and a Dartmouth economics graduate who played football for the college team. As a fitness guru featured on FOX 5 DC and the top-rated personal trainer in D.C. in 2021, Siwicki offers five outstanding chair exercises to enhance your routine. These moves are highly effective for sculpting the midsection as they engage the deep core muscles. Pairing this workout with a calorie deficit could yield noticeable results in no time.
“These chair exercises are effective because they challenge the lower abdomen to support the body against gravity at unique angles, which gym machines rarely replicate. This distinctive stimulus helps reactivate those muscles,” Siwicki explains.
“These chair exercises work because they force the lower abdomen to hold the body against gravity at angles you almost never see on a gym machine, which is exactly the stimulus that brings that muscle back online,” Siwicki tells us.
