Following an examination, it was discovered that some of the breast milk given to newborn newborns by NHS hospitals was contaminated with lead.
In seven hospitals throughout the UK, six in England and one in Wales, the contaminated milk was used to feed some premature newborns.
According to The Sun, the milk was also distributed to 35 clients via the company’s online store.
According to the Food Standards Agency, tests showed milk provided by NeoKare Nutrition had high amounts of hazardous metal. This metal can be particularly detrimental for young children (FSA).
The list of hospitals affected has not been made public, but the NHS has informed the parents of the children who received the milk products.
Lead poisoning, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), can lower children’s IQs and promote antisocial behavior.
The FSA stated that even though the product was recalled, the lead levels in the milk were not deemed to be seriously hazardous.
According to NeoKare Nutrition, the risk of youngsters consuming contaminated milk products is “minimal.”
“It’s likely that the exposure to lead from these products only lasted a short while.
The company stated on its website that “adverse effects from lead often develop from repeated exposure over a prolonged period of time.”
Both the FSA and Trading Standards have advised all products sold by the company to be withdrawn and recalled as a precaution.
A small number of customers who purchased the affected products online have been notified by the pharma company.
The recall notice affects four products that had been available to purchase online. They include:
- MOTHER’S MILK FORTIFIER (MMF) POWDER 10 x 1g, food for special medical purpose, supplied to NHS Hospitals only for use predominantly in clinical trials involving preterm babies, not available for retail sale
- PASTEURISED HUMAN BREAST MILK (PHBM) POWDER 6g (supplied direct to customers online)
- 70CAL LIQUID FROZEN 15ml and 50ml, (supplied to the NHS Hospitals and supplied direct to customers online)
- PASTEURISED HUMAN BREAST MILK (PHBM) LIQUID FROZEN 50ml (supplied direct to customers online)
A naturally occurring metal in the environment is lead.
Due to its presence in soil and water, it is found in many foods at extremely low quantities.
Due to lead’s presence in food, everyone has some minimal exposure to lead through diet.
The FSE stated that inquiries into the circumstances behind the increased lead levels are “ongoing.”
The affected parents and guardians are obviously concerned about this situation, according to Junior Johnson, head of operations at the FSA. In order to assess the risk to health, which is probably modest, we worked closely with the public health authorities and the NHS.
“The company recalled the products on the recommendation of the FSA and Trading Standards, and we made sure to contact customers and patients.
“Retail consumers and families whose children received the items have received additional support.

“We continue to collaborate with Trading Standards to make sure that the public is not at further risk for food safety.”
Lead has been discovered in a small number of NeoKare Nutrition products, so we have been collaborating with the local government and the Food Standards Agency.
We have adopted the cautious approach to recall all the items made by NeoKare Ltd. because we place the public’s health first.
