Dave Coulier Opens Up About Telling His Wife He Has Cancer. Dave Coulier is sharing his experience of being diagnosed with cancer and the moment he informed his wife, Melissa Coulier. The 65-year-old actor, known for “Full House,” spoke about his health on Blood Health after having a lymph node removed and tested.
“My wife was on the phone just before the doctor called, saying she’d be back in 20 minutes. Then the doctor called,” he explained. “The doctor said, ‘We wish we had better news.’ I instantly thought, ‘This is bad news.’ They told me I have non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, an aggressive B-cell type, and I should start chemotherapy soon.”
“It was a lot to take in,” he expressed. “You don’t think you’ll hear the word ‘cancer’ linked to you. I had about 15 minutes before my wife got home. When I told her, it felt like I had hit her in the chest. We hugged and cried together.”
Coulier mentioned that a peculiar sense of calm washed over him at that moment, and he aimed to remain hopeful regarding his diagnosis.
“I told her, ‘I believe there’s a silver lining. Perhaps I can help others by encouraging them to get early screenings.’ That thought provided me with stability,” he confessed. “If I was facing this challenge, maybe I could make a positive impact.”
In November 2024, Coulier disclosed his stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis exclusively to PEOPLE, explaining that an upper respiratory infection had caused swelling in his lymph nodes, prompting him to seek medical attention.
“This has been a really fast roller-coaster ride of a journey,” he remarked at that time.
The actor noted that since his diagnosis, his wife has been diligent in ensuring he maintains a proper diet throughout his battle with the illness.
“She has created an entire nutrition plan for me,” Coulier shared with PEOPLE about Melissa, whom he wed in July 2014.
In an Instagram post dated November 13, Melissa shared insights into how she is supporting her husband during his health challenges. She stated, “We are concentrating on nourishing his body with whole, natural foods, eliminating refined sugars and processed items, spending time outdoors, and integrating infrared saunas, breathwork, and massages to enhance Dave’s strength and comfort.”
She further expressed, “Dave’s resilience motivates me daily, and together, we are committed to his recovery, ensuring we share plenty of laughter to uplift our spirits.”
In a January interview with WXYZ, Melissa acknowledged that her husband’s treatment has become increasingly challenging.
“He experiences some very difficult days, and as the chemotherapy builds up, it becomes progressively tougher,” she noted.
Nevertheless, the wellness instructor remarked that the comedian maintains his spirits through humor, which is beneficial during the more challenging times.
“He possesses such a positive outlook, which is essential for effectively battling this,” she remarked. “Every morning, if he feels up to it, we make it a point to play a song and have a little dance party with the dogs, because it’s important to celebrate those moments when you feel good.”
