Ginger Zee is familiar with receiving feedback from online critics regarding her looks. She frequently chooses to address these comments head-on, sparking important conversations about body image and getting older.

Recently, the meteorologist addressed a negative remark made by a troll on one of her Instagram posts.

The commenter stated, “You’re not aging well,” to which Ginger responded assertively: “What a privilege to be aging in any manner — thanks for your opinion though.”

Accompanying a screenshot of their exchange, she conveyed a significant message to her followers about the value of aging, regardless of societal standards.

“You know you are in a good place when you genuinely believe your response,” she wrote. “And I do. What a privilege to be able to be alive. No matter how you perceive my aging, I’m proud of it.”

Her followers expressed their admiration in the comments, recognizing her as a strong role model for women.

“We should all age as ‘badly’ as you, Ginger!” remarked one fan, while another added, “Love your answer!”

“You are beautiful, and it is indeed a privilege to be able to age,” noted a third, and a fourth commented, “You are aging extremely well! You are as beautiful now as you were 20 years ago!”

In December, the star announced her decision to take a brief hiatus from social media due to the overwhelming number of negative comments she faced daily.

In her Instagram post, the mother of two shared her strategies for managing periods of low mental health.

Her first step was to “identify it, say it out loud,” followed by informing someone in her support network, and then committing to “consistent therapy, meditation, and gratitude practice.” She also emphasized the importance of repeating the phrase: “It’s temporary.”

Ginger has been transparent about her mental health challenges in recent years, revealing that she began running as a coping mechanism after being diagnosed with depression at the age of 21.

During my most challenging personal moments, particularly as my career was gaining momentum, I discovered that running served as an unrecognized form of therapy, she shared with People. “Often, it alleviated my sense of isolation and provided me with a natural boost of dopamine or whatever it was that I didn’t realize I desperately needed.”

“I was not in a position to truly heal, as I only received the correct diagnosis about 11 years ago. However, I firmly believe that running helped me stay above rock bottom on numerous occasions,” she added.

“When I finally sought inpatient treatment at the hospital—something I should have pursued much sooner—physical activity was included in the recovery plan they provided me, following sleep and nutrition.”

The television personality is now dedicated to dismantling the stigma associated with mental health by candidly sharing her own experiences.

“In the case of physical health, if someone sustains a broken leg, everyone knows the appropriate steps to take. We take them to the hospital, arrange for rehabilitation, and they recover,” she noted.

“Conversely, when an individual is facing mental health challenges, people often become uneasy and uncertain about how to respond.”
