An Ohio woman has been sentenced to prison for opening fire at a New Year’s party attended by both her husband and her boyfriend. The incident has led to a significant prison term for her actions.

Olivia Clendenin received a sentence of 16 to 20 years from a Warren County judge on March 26. The case was reported by Cincinnati’s WXIX, WLWT, and WKRC. This sentencing follows a jury’s decision two months earlier, which found her guilty of attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault, and illegal firearm discharge into a dwelling, according to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.

The prosecutor’s office press release detailed the events of January 1, 2025. On that day, Clendenin discovered that her husband and her boyfriend were at the same New Year’s party, having learned of their mutual relationship with her earlier that evening.

Despite her attempts to persuade her husband to leave the party, Clendenin arrived at the scene with a .40 caliber handgun. She proceeded to fire eight shots, hitting an innocent partygoer who was seated on the porch. Warren County Prosecutor David P. Fornshell stated, “The victim was simply attending a New Year’s Eve gathering and became caught in Clendenin’s gunfire. Despite starting 2025 as a free woman, Clendenin will spend the next decade or more in prison for her actions, which nearly resulted in an innocent person’s death.”

Daniel Johnson, the victim, recounted his experience during the sentencing, explaining that he was “minding [his] business” when he was shot. He expressed in court footage aired by WLWT, “The defendant intended to shoot someone else, but I was the one who ended up injured. My life was altered in that moment for reasons beyond my control.”
