Sarah Ferguson Diagnoses And Surgery
PEOPLE has confirmed that Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The Duchess of York, 63, was recently diagnosed with an early-stage breast cancer that was found during a routine mammography screening, according to a spokesperson for PEOPLE. She was informed that she needed to have surgery, which was successful.
The best medical treatment is being provided to the Duchess, and her doctors have assured her that the prognosis is favorable. The statement continued, “She is now recovering with her family. The Duchess wishes to express her sincere appreciation to all the medical professionals who have helped her lately.
The representative continues, “She is also extremely grateful to the staff at the mammogram who discovered her illness, which had no other symptoms, and believes her experience highlights the importance of routine screening.”
The Duchess taped a podcast episode the day before her operation, according to the spokesman, and it will be released early on Monday.
The news was initially reported by The Sun.

Two years have passed since Fergie opened up to PEOPLE about another facet of her health, her mental health.
In July 2021, Fergie revealed that British newspapers at the time she made her public debut in 1985 at the age of 26 were full of demeaning headlines that gave her the moniker “Duchess of Pork” and pitted her against her close friend, Princess Diana.
The Duchess admitted to having serious mental health issues at the time, attributing them to the trauma. “It’s taken a lot of work because I trusted everything the front pages told me,” the author said. It was humiliation of oneself. I have really high sensitivity.
Fergie and her girls joined the Teenage Cancer Trust for a video chat in July of last year, during which the organization’s founders Dr. Adrian Whiteson and Myrna Whiteson praised her for her close collaboration with the group over the previous 32 years.
Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice were informed by the creators that their mother “has such humility and such empathy with patients,” according to a video posted by Hello! magazine.
Fergie participated in the virtual event and helped the University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust formally establish a specialized hematological unit.
“This is a special charity that’s so very close to my heart,” Fergie said in a statement. “Cancer doesn’t just devastate a young person’s health, it threatens to take away everything they care about — their identity, their independence, and their dreams. Teenage Cancer Trust’s specialist nurses and youth workers provide the very best care and support during treatment and beyond, making sure that cancer doesn’t stop young people from living their lives.”
