Unlock Stronger Inner Thighs with These 5 At-Home Wall Exercises for Over 60

Inner thigh strength is vital for maintaining side-to-side balance and stability.

Keeping your legs strong is essential, as your thighs are instrumental in everyday activities such as walking, running, standing, and climbing stairs. Strong inner thighs also play a part in preventing hip and knee injuries. Unfortunately, this critical area does not always receive the emphasis it deserves.

"As we age, we naturally experience a decline in muscle mass, and the inner thighs often get overlooked because many daily tasks don’t challenge these muscles adequately. Prolonged sitting can further contribute to their weakening over time," explains Denise Chakoian, a certified fitness trainer in Rhode Island and proprietor of Core Cycle and Fitness LaGree. With over 16 years of experience training individuals across all ages and fitness levels, she emphasizes, "Robust inner thighs help maintain proper alignment of the hips and knees, reducing undue stress on the joints. They are also crucial for balance and lateral stability, which become increasingly significant with age. Keeping them strong can enhance posture and make movements more controlled and efficient."

But there's no need to worry, as we're here to update your regimen with some essential tweaks. We spoke with Chakoian about five wall exercises that can help bolster your inner thighs quicker than using gym machines for those over 60.

Chakoian selected these exercises because they simultaneously target the inner thighs while enhancing overall stability and balance.

“Using a wall provides extra support, which can help people over 60 feel more confident during the movements. These exercises are gentle on the joints and can be adjusted to different fitness levels. They also involve muscles that work together in everyday movement patterns rather than isolating just one area. Most importantly, they are simple enough to do consistently at home without any special equipment, which makes them easier to do on a day-to-day basis,” she tells us.
