BRANDON, Fla. (WFLA) — There was a large law enforcement presence in a Brandon neighborhood Sunday following a deadly shooting.

One person was killed, and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday night deputies were still searching for the suspected shooter.

The shooting happened just after 7 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 700 block of Providence Trace Circle, according to authorities.

Detectives said the suspect and victim got into an argument in the breezeway of an apartment building. The suspect then took out a gun and shot the victim, who was pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital.

Officials have not yet released the victim’s identity, but said it was a man who was killed.

“A man’s life has been tragically cut short due to an act of violence that can never be undone,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “There is no dispute that should ever come to this. Our detectives are doing everything they can to locate the suspect and ensure the victim and his family get the justice they deserve.”

A helicopter was spotted circling the area, and several deputies were seen in the neighborhood.

No further information was immediately available.
