ROBERTSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man is facing charges following a Friday evening crash that killed two children in Robertson County.

According to Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the incident was reported around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10 in the 4700 block of Highway 161.

“The initial call was from automatic crash detection technology and was followed up by multiple 911 calls,” Robertson County EMS told News 2. “Robertson County EMS and other agencies responded as safely and quickly as possible given the hazardous road conditions following a winter storm.”

Officials said a 2022 RAM 1500 was heading west on Highway 161 when it ran off the right side of the road and hit a culvert. Then, after the initial collision, the truck reportedly went airborne and struck a utility pole.

THP said two passengers — described as a 7-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy — were not wearing their seatbelts and died in the crash.

According to Robertson County EMS, the man in the truck was assessed, refused medical attention, and didn’t require transport to the hospital.

Authorities identified the uninjured driver as 36-year-old Lukas Mansfield of Tennessee, who was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the wreck. He is being charged with two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, THP reported.

“Please keep those affected by this tragic incident and those who responded to it in your thoughts and prayers,” Robertson County EMS said in a statement.

No additional details have been released about the investigation into Friday’s deadly crash.
