DELTONA, Fla. – In a concerning incident, an 11-year-old student from Highbanks Learning Center in Deltona was taken into custody on Monday, facing felony charges. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office reported that the young boy had composed a “kill list” while at school.

Although the child did not have access to any weapons, he has been charged with making a written threat to kill, a serious offense. Due to his age, the boy’s identity is being withheld by News 6.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood has emphasized the gravity of such threats, even as the frequency of school threats has reportedly decreased. On Facebook, the sheriff’s office reiterated his commitment to taking these incidents seriously, noting that they will lead to felony charges.

Further details of the case have not been disclosed at this time, leaving many questions unanswered as authorities handle the delicate situation.

“While school threats are down recently, Sheriff Chitwood is continuing to stress to students and parents that these types of threats will result in felony charges,” the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook.

No other details have been released.
