LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. (WFLA) — A 17-year-old girl was arrested this week after she stabbed her girlfriend’s brother in the face and chest with a pair of scissors, NBC affiliate WBBH reported.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the stabbing occurred at a home on 68th Street West in Lehigh Acres on Thursday.
The suspect, who WFLA is not naming at this time due to her age, got into an argument with her girlfriend about their relationship, WBBH reported. After the argument escalated, the suspect reportedly strangled the girlfriend to the point of almost losing consciousness.
According to the report, the girlfriend wanted the suspect to leave the home, so she got her outside and locked her out. However, the suspect apparently removed one of the window screens and forced her way back inside.
The girlfriend’s brother was asked to go to the home to check on his sister. Inside, the brother attempted to de-escalate the situation and calm the suspect down, who had armed herself with scissors, WBBH reported.
That’s when the teen stabbed the girlfriend’s brother in the face and tackled him to the ground, stabbing him in the chest, the report said.
The girlfriend reportedly drove her brother to a nearby fire station around 1 a.m., before he was taken to a hospital and treated for a large cut on his chin, and stab wounds to his chest and right forearm.
According to WBBH, the girlfriend said the couple had been dating for around a year, but described their relationship as “turbulent.”
The 17-year-old is reportedly in the Lee County Jail after her arrest on charges of burglary with assault or battery and domestic battery by strangulation.
The incident remains under investigation.
