AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that a domestic disturbance in Augusta resulted in a man being shot in the stomach. The incident, which unfolded early Friday morning, has left the community on edge as law enforcement tracks down the suspect.
Authorities were called to the 2900 Block of Shelby Drive around 6 a.m. on May 1, responding to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies found a male victim in the bedroom suffering from a gunshot wound to his stomach. He was quickly transported to the hospital, where medical staff have since listed him in stable condition.
The investigation has pointed to 18-year-old Demarcus Wesby as a suspect in the case. Currently wanted for Aggravated Assault, Wesby is considered armed and dangerous, prompting a thorough search by the sheriff’s office.
Reports suggest that the shooting stemmed from a physical altercation between Wesby and the victim, allegedly over a woman. Witnesses indicate that the woman tried to intervene and stop the fight, but according to the incident report, Wesby allegedly pulled out a gun and started shooting.
