2-year-old in stable condition after being found unresponsive in Morgan Co. pool

WAVERLY, Ill. (WCIA) — A 2-year-old boy was found unresponsive in a pool in Morgan County Friday evening, but is now in stable condition.

It happened at home near Stuart and Caruthers Roads in Waverly at approximately 7 p.m. Waverly is about 40 minutes southwest of Springfield.

The Waverly Fire Department told WCIA the boy snuck out during a cookout. He was found shortly after, unresponsive, by family who performed CPR for five minutes.

The boy was taken by helicopter to St. John’s Hospital where he was in stable condition as of 10 p.m. on Friday. Waverly and Auburn EMS also responded to the scene.

WCIA reached out to the Waverly Fire Department on Saturday for updates but did not receive an immediate response.
