ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A tragic incident occurred in Orange County on Saturday morning when a 20-year-old motorcyclist lost his life in a crash, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The fatal accident took place at approximately 7 a.m. at the intersection of North Hiawassee Road and Hiawassee Meadows Drive.
Officials from the Florida Highway Patrol stated that the crash involved a 2023 Jeep Compass traveling west on Hiawassee Meadows Drive. The driver attempted to make a left turn to proceed south on Hiawassee Road.
Meanwhile, a 2008 Ducati Superbike was heading north on Hiawassee Road, just south of the intersection. The Jeep’s turn placed it directly in the path of the oncoming motorcycle, leading to the collision.
The motorcyclist, a young man from Orlando, was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The 61-year-old Orlando man driving the Jeep was also taken to the hospital but with only minor injuries.
Troopers said the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and the Jeep driver was wearing a seatbelt.
The crash remains under investigation.
