AUGUSTA, Ga. () – An arrest warrant for murder charges has been issued in connection to a 20 years-long cold case in the murder of Catrina Beatrice Evans, a mother who was stabbed to death in her Augusta apartment in 2005.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, a warrant has been obtained for 56-year-old Juan Renardo Chunn.

On August 20, 2005, deputies responded to 2445 Amsterdam Drive, Apartment 13-C, where they discovered Evans deceased from multiple stab wounds. Evans’ one-year-old child was also located, and was found alive.

In July 2025, the case was reviewed, and a palm print found near the victim’s body was resubmitted to the GBI Department of Forensic Science Crime Lab. According to RCSO, the lab determined the palm print was that of Juan Renaldo Tillman, also known as Juan Renardo Chunn.

Chunn is currently in custody at the Columbus Correctional Institution in Whiteville, N.C., serving a life sentence for Murder in the First Degree. RCSO said it will now proceed with the murder charge for this jurisdiction.

Evans’ family has been notified of the update, according to police.

“Our office remains committed not only to working current cases but also to reviewing past and cold cases,” said Sheriff Eugene Brantley. “Every victim deserves justice, and every family deserves closure. By revisiting these investigations with today’s technology and resources, we can hold violent offenders accountable and ensure they can no longer harm others in our community.”

According to the sheriff’s office, additional information will be released “as this case proceeds through the judicial process.”
