TAVARES, Fla. – Irene in Tavares has an old motion sensor light in her carport but it was sensing the way it should be so we stopped by and set up the settings!
If you have a project you’d like Erik to tackle, send us an email at GettingResultsAtHome@wkmg.com and next week Erik might just show up at your door!
Step 1
Irene has an older motion sensor light so the settings are limited. There is one slider switch on the bottom of the sensor and one turn knob. The slider is for length of time the light stays on and the knob is for the amount of sensitivity.
But first, step number one is to make sure power to the light is turned on! (Also note – some motion sensor lights can be switched from motion sensing to spotlight just by powering the light on and off quickly).
Step 2
Adjust the slider switch. It turns out Irene’s slider switch was set to “TEST” meaning the light would only stay on for a few seconds when it detected motion because it was set to test mode. The other settings on the slider switch are length of time in minutes: 1 minute, 5 minutes and 10 minutes.
Irene wanted the longest duration so we slid the switch over to “10” minutes.
Step 3
Adjust the turn knob. Irene wanted the motion sensitivity set to the highest amount so we rotated the knob to “MAX.” We flipped the slider switch back to “TEST” mode, checked the sensitivity by walking towards Irene’s car port and discovered the motion sensor did in fact detect us and was working properly. Before we left we made sure to slide the slider switch to “10” minutes once again.
You just got results at home!
